Breaking the stigma around men's mental health in Charlotte and beyond.
Help us reach our goal to launch The Unmentioned Project and create lasting change in men's mental health.
Donate to GoFundMeAcross Greater Charlotte, and nationwide, adult men face a potent mix of stigma, delayed help-seeking, and fragmented access to mental health care and support. In 2023, the U.S. recorded over 49,300 suicide deaths; men accounted for nearly 80% and had a rate about four times higher than women. In North Carolina, suicide is among the leading causes of death for ages 19–34. Yet men remain less likely than women to receive mental health treatment, and the impacts cripple families and workplaces, contributing to an estimated $510 billion in annual national costs tied to suicide and self-harm.
To break the stigma around men's mental health by normalizing open conversation, connecting men and their families to accessible resources, and working with community partners to prevent suicide and support families affected by suicide.
A Greater Charlotte-area culture where every man feels safe to speak up, finds timely and quality support, and no family impacted by suicide grieves alone.
We will increase help-seeking among adult men, shorten time-to-care through a network of trained, peer-led support services that link directly to care; operate a men-first, 24/7 suicide-prevention hotline; and provide rapid-response financial assistance for men in crisis and families impacted by suicide.
Trained men's groups that reduce stigma and speed access to care.
A suicide-prevention line built by and for men in crisis.
Rapid-response aid for families impacted by suicide.
Education & partnerships that normalize conversation.
The Unmentioned Project is creating a cultural shift in how men's health is viewed and supported in Charlotte and beyond. Through education, peer-driven programs, and community partnerships, we are building a future where vulnerability is strength, conversations are healing, and no man suffers in silence.
